Ollie started Djing about
1991 fine tuning his turntable skills until he got his first break
playing at the Happy Landings parties in Gravesend.
After Happy Landings Ollie started playing on London based pirate radio
station Pressure FM.
He stayed with Pressure for about a year and a half before moving onto
the seminal Cyndicut FM.
Ollie received some
important bookings, off the strength of his mix tapes, from Pure Science
and One Nation. Appearances at these high profile clubs led to a lot of
smaller, more regular
bookings around the South East of England.
In 1998 he enrolled in a
full time sound engineering course where he learnt the ins and outs
of professional studio set-ups. The course included analogue and
digital recording, sequencing
and mixing as well as a lot of sound theory.
1999 saw Ollie step into a full time job at Mickey Finns 'Biting Back
Records' shop where he
was manager in charge of the day to day running, he’s also
done
time behind the counter of the
legendary ‘Boogie Times Records’, one of largest
D&B
specialists in the UK.
In 2001, along with long
time friend DJ Nicol, Ollie set up Direct Recordings, one of the
UK’s
fastest growing D&B labels. Ollie co-produced ‘Easy’,
which featured on Direct
Recordings
debut release.
On the DJ front
Ollie’s earned himself guest sets at AWOL, Movement and Best
of
British, regular sets at Innovations massive events in London, Spain
& Amsterdam, residencies at Pure Science, Jungle Ravenation,
High
on Life, High Velocity, Vinyl Conflict, Neat
Beats, Bassment, Liquid Session plus many other one off bookings across
the UK & Europe.
DJ Ollie was also nominated
in the 'Best Breakthrough DJ' category at the 2008 National D&B
Awards
